1. Luckenbach Dance Hall
You may be wondering, “Where have I heard of Luckenbach before?” This tiny Texas Hill Country town with a population of just 3 people became world-famous in 1977 when country music legend Waylon Jennings released a song entitled “Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love).” In the song, Waylon suggests a trip to gorgeous Luckenbach to help heal a strained relationship. Luckenbach Dance Hall has been open since 1887, allowing guests to dance the night away as talented musicians perform live music!
2. Kendalia Halle
One of the oldest dance halls in Texas Hill Country, Kendalia Halle began as a venue for folks traveling through the area via wagon as far back as 1903. It quickly became a place families would visit to dance and socialize with one another! Located about 30 miles northeast of Boerne, this historic dance hall provides a fun and clean environment for the entire family. This venue typically hosts dances and live music on Saturday nights once a month. Plus, their barbecue tacos come complimentary with the price of admission!
3. Gruene Hall
Gruene Hall is Texas’ oldest continually operating dance hall! Built in 1878, this 6,000 square foot dance hall features an open-air space for dancing, a bar, a small lighted stage and a huge outdoor garden. Black and white newspaper clippings and photos cover the walls as a reminder of the venue’s rich history. Gruene Hall is located in New Braunfels and one of the top places for dancing in Texas Hill Country.
4. John T. Floore’s Country Store
John T. Floore’s Country Store was in fact never a store at all! This Texas honky tonk has hosted a variety of superstars over the years, including Willie Nelson, Elvis Pressley, Hank Williams Sr., Bob Dylan, Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard and many more! Opened in 1942, John T. Floore’s Country Store remains one of the most popular spots for dancing in Texas Hill Country. Enjoy plenty of live music, dancing and their world-famous tamales! Floore’s is located in Helotes, about 30 minutes south of Boerne.
5. Twin Sisters Dance Hall
Built by German immigrants in the 19th century, Twin Sisters Dance Hall now hosts public dances on the first Saturday of every month. This popular dance hall located in Blanco also routinely hosts family gatherings, educational workshops and charity events. Get to toe tapping on the dance floor and enjoy a bar that sells beer, wine, champagne, soda, water and snacks! Grab a bite to eat from the food truck on site when you need to refuel.
