Here are 5 museums in Fredericksburg to visit with the whole family:

1. Pioneer Museum

The Pioneer Museum aims to teach current and future generations about the impressive German history, culture and traditions of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County to preserve this proud heritage. Swaths of Germans who heard of a better life in America began making their way to Texas Hill Country in the 1840s. Located on 3.5 acres on Main Street in downtown Fredericksburg, the Pioneer Museum tells the stories of those who fought tooth and nail for a better life.

2. National Museum of the Pacific War

Dedicated to the brave men and women who served in the Pacific War, the National Museum of the Pacific War is the world’s premier museum about World War II’s Pacific Theater. Formerly known as the Nimitz Museum, this museum features a gallery highlighting Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, a Fredericksburg native who served as a commander in chief during the war. Spend some time reflecting on personal stories of life on the front lines.

3. Vereins Kirche

Just 2 blocks away from the Pioneer Museum is another of the top museums in Fredericksburg! Vereins Kirche or “Society Church” is located in the middle of the Fredericksburg town square known as Marktplatz. Vereins Kirche is a replica of the first public building ever constructed in Fredericksburg by the original pioneers. The original was erected in 1847 and served as a church, school and community center for decades. This replica was built in 1935 and recently reopened after extensive renovations.

4. Texas Rangers Heritage Center

Situated adjacent to Fort Martin Scott is the Texas Rangers Heritage Center! One of the top museums in Fredericksburg, this family attraction includes the Ranger Ring of Honor, the Campanile Bell Tower, a bronze sculpture known as “The Legend, The Lore, The Law,” an open air pavilion, an amphitheater and more. Take part in one of many special events at the Texas Rangers Heritage Center like chuckwagon dinners, cowboy breakfast, cowboy church and live music throughout the year.

5. Fort Martin Scott

Fort Martin Scott was one of the first U.S. Army establishments to be set up in Texas! Go for a self-guided walk of this pre-Civil War (1848) military outpost as you learn about one of the first frontier Army forts in Texas. This fort was in operation from 1848 to 1853 by the U.S. Army while Texas Rangers used the site as a camp both before and after military occupation. The Confederate States Army occupied this fort for a brief period. This museum is owned by the City of Fredericksburg and managed by the Texas Rangers Heritage Center.
