One of the best parts about coming to visit Texas Hill Country is the incredible natural beauty that you can explore while you are here. With caverns, hills, plains, and more, there are lots of opportunities to immerse yourself in nature when you come to visit. If you are looking to take advantage of this chance to see wildlife in its natural habitat, then you are in luck! Here are some of the main animals in Texas Hill Country that you can spot during your time here:

1. Brazilian Free-Tailed Bats

One of the most popular animals in Texas Hill Country that visitors enjoy seeing are the Brazilian Free-tailed bats that call the area home for part of the year. The bats live in South America during the winter months, but return to Texas each year from around the start of spring until mid-summer. The bats are a dark color, have large ears and feet, and mostly reside in caves while they are in Texas. You can see the bats at several spots throughout Texas Hill Country, including Old Tunnel State Park which is home to a large colony of bats. Just remember that bats often carry disease, so make sure to keep your distance!

2. White-Tailed Deer

The population is managed through controlled hunting, which allows for the deer to thrive without harming the surrounding ecosystem.

3. Guadalupe Bass

Another of the animals in Texas Hill Country that you can spot, the Guadalupe bass is actually the official state fish of Texas. That’s because this fish is only found right here in the state of Texas and nowhere else! Guadalupe bass can be found in small streams and typically weigh around one pound but can be as heavy as three pounds.

4. Wild Turkeys

5. Armadillos

These armored animals are some of the most unique creatures that you can see here in Texas.
